CommUnity Presentations

In an effort to promote awareness and understanding of homosexuality within the Notre Dame community, the Standing Committee developed a new educational initiative for first-year students in the spring of 2001.

The Core Council sponsors this program for the residence halls annually. Two gay, lesbian, or bisexual student-members of the Core Council and an administrator from the University present. The basic premise of the presentation ND's unique perspective on issues of homosexuality. We hold two things in creative tension–1) our belief that all human beings are children of God; and 2) our appreciation of and belief in Catholic teaching on sexuality and consequently on homosexual activity. The purpose is to spark initial discussions in the residence halls about the complexity of these issues.

We are committed to providing educational opportunities for the entire Notre Dame community. Our major programs are NETWORK and CommUnity, in collaboration with the Gender Relations Center. NETWORK prepares individuals on campus to offer a confidential and respectful place of dialogue and encouragement on gay and lesbian issues. CommUnity targets first-year students to promote awareness and understanding of homosexuality within the Notre Dame community.
