Rev. Joe Carey, C.S.C.
Fr. Joe Carey is a 1962 graduate of Notre Dame and has an M.A. in Theology from Holy Cross College in Washington, D.C. He was ordained a Holy Cross priest in 1969, taught at Notre Dame High School for six years, and served as Director of Vocations for the CSC order for four years. As both an Assistant Rector and Rector, he led Dillon Hall from 1977 – 1997 and was a Financial Counselor for ten of those years. Fr. Joe also served in Campus Ministry at Saint Mary’s College for five years.
Currently, Fr. Joe is the Assistant Director of Campus Ministry for Religious Education and Retreats where he is involved in the RCIA Program and with many retreats including GLBT, Senior, Pre-Cana and NDE. He presides at many Masses at both the Basilica of the Sacred Heart and in residence halls across campus, and is available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Spiritual Direction. In addition to his work in Campus Ministry, Fr. Joe serves Notre Dame as a Career Counselor in the Career Center, where he helps students with resumes and mock interviews. He lives in Pasquerilla West Hall.
Fr. Joe notes, "I believe that God loves all people and ministry is about bringing all people the good news that they are made in the image and likeness of God.”
